This little lifehack aside, AppleCare+ does give you better protection than the complimentary plan if you buy it on day one. So for the most coverage, you can rely on the complimentary coverage for 59 days and then purchase AppleCare+, giving your device three years and two months of protection. With AppleCare+, your device's warranty is extended to three years from the date you purchased the insurance.
